Exotic, aromatic shade and ornamental tree. Fast growing, broad-leaved evergreen often twice as wide as tall. Can grow 50-100 feet tall. Young leaves are reddish and 3 inch spikes of small yellowish-white flowers appear in spring. They are soon replaced with black, pea-sized berries. Grows in full sun or partial shade, prefers well drained soil. Roots can present a problem for septic systems. |
