Eugenia/Brush Cherry

Eugenia myrtacae

Ornamental and columnar, it is useful as a background shrub, container plant, as a screener or a windbreak. It also makes a strong trimmed hedge. Has shiny narrow, mid-green leaves and bronze-red new growth. In summer it produces small fluffy creamy white flowers and later pinky red fruits. These make a clear, ruby red jelly.  Plant grows best in warm, frost-free areas, in the drier areas it needs regular

watering. Prefers a fairly

fertile soil enriched with compost. It should be planted in sun, as too much shade leads to loss of foliage color and few flowers.
