Powder Puff

Calliandra inaequilatera

Heights of 6 to 10 feet with 8 foot spread, have large reddish-pink flowers, up to 3 inches in diameter, that resemble feather dusters or “powder puffs.” Their leaves fold up at night.  Flowers bloom summer and fall. Leaves are medium texture, light green underneath with matte green on top with a tinge of pink when first developing. They do not tolerate heavy frost and need an even and constant amount of moisture. Keep them contained as shrubs or prune to have espalier.
